Water Street Studios presents "Art Movie Night: Featuring film on artist Alice Neel

Water Street Studios invites you to join us on April 2 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm for Art Movie Night featuring portrait artist Alice Neel. Admission is free for members and is $5 for non-members. Water Street Studios resident artist Greta Bell will present the movie followed by a discussion on the artist and the film. The movie features artist, Alice Neel (1900- 1984), who reinvented portrait painting using the inner landscapes of her subjects such as Andy Warhol, Beklla Abzug, and Allen Ginsburg as well as her neighbors in spanish Harlem. The film, directed by her grandson Andrew Neel, captures Alice Neel struggling as a female artist, a single mother, as well as a painter who defied conviention. A preview of the movie as well as examples of Alice Neel’s work can be found on the Water Street Studios website under ‘events’. Water Street Studios is located at 160 South Water Street in Batavia, Illinois.

Chef Amaury is showing his support of the local art community not only by hanging local artists (of which I am one) but when he opens his doors for the first time this Thursday, it will be to benefit and support the Aurora Artwalk. Patrons will enjoy fine art and musical entertainment by Kevin Trudo. Appetizers, cheese, fruit and desserts will be served. Donation is $10.00. A cash bar will be available. Come out and support the arts, all proceeds will go to the Aurora Artwalk scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 2-7pm.
